(Note: This all happened previously on Dec 6th) Both registration and alpha testing begin tonight. Refresh and read the up-to-the-minute play by play as the team prepares to.... wait incoming message from the player support team: "WHAT!? How much work do you have left to finish on HeroSmash today? Um... Really? ...and you are still planning on starting the alpha test tonight? *gulps* You guys really are crazy." You can send messages to the team via the official HeroSmash Forum or Artix's Twitter. We will do the best we can to answer all questions here!

 

8:00pm Alpha Test begins... BUGS INCOMING!
I would like to thank you and the other incredible players who are helping us battle our way through the mountain of bugs and issues. We are honored that you joined us to create your character and be a part of this special event. Here are the top bugs!

    Chat will be available tomorrow. The message it gives is wrong. We removed it due to a problem that was holding up the release :-(

  • Server Cannot be reached
    This problem happens when you are creating your Master Account. It has been fixed: Please clear your cache and restart your browser to fix the problem. Or, you can also can go directly to Portal.BattleOn.com to create your master account instead.
  • I am a flame in HeroSmash! What do I do?
    This is the result of an item that is not working properly preventing your character from fully loading... OR... lag causing the file not to load. Post and let us know what you are wearing!
  • Duplicate Quest Turn in (Jetpacks)
    We are um.. looking into this one!
  • Item preview is not working & bag shows 20/20
  • Main Street not loading
    We are still investigating why this is happening

 

10:30pm When asked if we should take the server down for the night or leave it up.... I think the 5 solid minutes of this on my screen pretty much decided it. Thank you so much for a great release everyone! BATTLE ON!

7:44pm It compiled! We are re-rolling the files to the alpha testing server! Hold on to your helms.... erm... spandex? Prepare for alpha launch.

7:36pm Oh wow... now the game engine is too big and will not compile. We are removing the "BattleOn Games" Dragon logo to squeak by. This is so crazy! Please remember that you will be logging in using your BATTLE ON GAMES login from Http://portal.battleon.com (because it is about to be a lot less obvious)

7:30pm OK, the problem is with the color customization. Animation added to the character creation process used an older version of the "player skeleton". Long story short... the most important thing got overwritten. They are replacing it from a backup. If you wanted to be a part of the real alpha "everything goes wrong" experience... you are waist deep it in with us. They need a few more minutes and then we should be set. Good luck guys!

7:20pm The bug is causing the newly created character not to save. I am going back to the programming room... will be back in a moment!

7:16pm Why do bugs like that ALWAYS wait until the last second before launch to suddenly manifest. It is like some super vilian somewhere planted that into the game so and was like, "Hahahaha... got them all again!" One major bug fix to the character creation system and Alpha goes live! (P.S. You know the release is going well when your biggest fans send you tweets about strangling you :-)

7:04pm Attendants please begin pre-flight check... we ask that everyone keep your hands inside the vehicle at all times and fasten your safety belts! We are currently jettisoning everything that is not working out the back and preparing for take off! Tonight's in-flight movie is rated "A" for Alpha! Expect some turbulance and.... OMG!

6:55pm We are getting ready to release both Character Creation and the Alpha Play. If you want to be one of the first to play, make sure your AdventureQuest Worlds Membership is valid and you are good to go!

6:50pm Zhoom and Llussion say they are almost ready! Also, I think flying is going to be available at level 1 during this phase of the Alpha!

6:30pmThe team is working as hard as possible to get character creation up for you. The game itself is 99%ready... so what is holding us back is the thing everyone is most eager for -- character creation. Thank you for sticking with us, especially all of you who are overseas. We know it is late! As long as no one will be upset with us -- we are going to cut a few corners to open up character creation before it is 100% ready just to you can get your names as fast as possible. To fill these final moments before the release... QUESTION: If you choose color customizable tights with the underpants on the wrong side... what color combo will you go with?

6:03pm ACTUAL CONVERSATION

Artix: It is sundown! Are we ready to launch.

Zhoom: ...

Artix: ....?

Zhoom: .... are we?

Artix: What is left to be done?

Llussion: Character creation is not ready yet. I need to add 43 more gloves, hairs, and armors. Half of the hairs are bugged.

Zhoom: I'm setting the level cap, adding the rest of the sounds, changing the permissions and making critical engine fixes.

Dumoose: Fixing the new maps, adjusting NPCs

Artix: How much more time do you all need?
Everyone: ... a few hours.

Artix: Can you do it in 1?

Everyone: .....

Artix: I am telling them we will be ready in 1.

Everyone: O_O

Artix: Awesome! Keep up the great work guys! We launch in one hour!

Galanoth: Do we have a website yet?

Artix: *pats Galanoth on the back* We got this! BATTLE ON!

6:00pm Galanoth is rallying the team.

5:45pm Added Xyo's HeroSmash video trailer to the homepage! Do you see how Demolicious, the NPC floating to the right, follows the page? When alpha opens... the PLAY button will appear on her wrecking ball. I would like to remind you all -- that this is an Alpha TEST. Most developers do not make their alpha tests... where anything (even every feature and piece of art in the entire game) can change. This is not a "game" yet. We love you guys and do not want you to freak out and be dissapointed when you login. Set your expectations low.... you know, like when opening any fortune cookie made after 2009. <reads: You will play a video game in your future.> But have lots of fun breaking everything! This is an alpha.... and ooooooooh stuff will break!

5:15pm Question: "Exactly when is sundown? I mean.. you guys work in a secret underground lab. How do you even know there IS a sun all the way down there?" Answer: You know... he has a good point! P.S. ChaosElemental - we may not have a Bucket for you at launch, but we will be creating one! Have more requests? Suggest HeroSmash items and powers . Also, please add #HeroSmash to your tweets!

5:00pm There is a strange calm that comes over the team when we get this close to release. Perhaps calm is not the right word. More like frozen panic combined with shock and

4:45pm Adding more last-minute items to character creation. Also eye brows now change color! (Randomly. It is more of a bug than a feature. We are working on it!)

4:35pm 15 pages of suggestions for HeroSmash items on the forums and Alpha has not even started! On that subject Galanoth says there are now 180+ items have been added to the database. Character deletion is now working... I just deleted my first character! YAY! Although... eeeep! It was Galanoth's.

4:30pm 1,000 Facebook likes! CONGRATULATIONS! Your prize... the first ever glimpse of the Paladin Room wall sculpure. (Yes, that is my bedroom... and the reassembled and re-painted Blinding light of destiny that broke during a photoshoot against the undead. I really hope it does not fall on me while I am sleeping.) In unrelated news -- the DoomKnight room may actually appear in an upcoming issue of Guitar Player Magazine in an interview with One-Eyed Doll!

3:15pm AuronnxAE tweets, "Is our master accounts username gonna be our characters name?" Answer: You will log into HeroSmash using your BattleOn Games Login, and then you will be able to make characters with a name of your choosing. It is a really nice improvement that it possible to make multiple heroes in HeroSmash on a single account -- although we are limiting everyone to 1 character for today's launch to help you and the other players reserve your name. Character creation will be opening tonight at sundown.

2:15pm The final push is on! Zhoom's fingers are coding so fast I can smell knuckle-smoke coming from the other side of the lab. We have not hit any major bugs yet today *knocks on wood* -- but we are struggling to get all of the art items added to the game. Yergen, Beleen & Dumoose are uploading 50 hair styles in the next few minutes. Also, Warlic made us all new SoundFX for the game and a little hero theme music for you -- code faster Zhoom! Sundown is coming!

2:00pm Official post where you can suggest HeroSmash items and powers has just been posted. Meanwhile, everyone is posting their top 5 favorite super her... hah! You thought I was going to use the word, huh? Nope Mr evil vampire laywer. We know you are sitting there hitting the refresh button just waiting for me to accidentally use the word *Content Removed* WHOOPS! Shhhhh.....

1:15pm Frequently asked question: "Will we be stuck with the outfit we make at character customization?" Answer: Nope! You can change anything about your character.... and even unlock more customization options when in the game. For Alpha... we will be rushing to start opening shops so expect there to be little at the start, and lots as we move forward. (Including some rabbit ears... I did not forget abut you Tokijin!)

1:00pm Added a like button! you have seen a picture of the DoomKnight room. If we get to 1,000 likes, I will post a picture of the scultpure on the wall in the Paladin room.

12:30pm On Twitter, Scatman_Sketch asks, "So swears and AE character names must be filtered, right? Is there anything else we wont be able to use as names?" Yes - we were super careful to block any trademarked super names owned by other companies. You may be thinking to yourself, "Wow.... that was an surprisingly smart thing to do.", unless you happen to be another companies' lawyer in which you are thinking, "Awww man... now how am I going to sue them? " (And we know you are reading this! *sticks tongue out*)

12:15pm New game interface and loading screen merged in. The new eyes and mouths are being added to the Vinyl character models. The staff are now creating their characters... LOL... but the name filter is preventing them from entering their staff names!

12:00pm (WOOOOHOOOO! I remember to change it to pm this time! New 1st achievement unlocked!) Galanoth is creating the final checklist for the team. It is.... very... very long. This is a good time to remind everyone that an alpha test is indeed a test. Not to be confused with a final game or even a Beta test (which is a little more like a final game.) We have always created games along side you and depending on your feedback we could end up literally changing... everything! If you have never been with us for a alpha test before - have fun, prepare for swarms of unpredictable bugs, and if you have questions on what to expect you can always ask the veteran players on the forums who survived the previous alpha tests!

11:35am Character creation seems operational, but NONE of the hairs, eyes, faces, mouths, costumes, capes have been entered into the database yet O_O Making a special call into AQWorlds team members for emergency backup help.
11:30am Artix in a Donald Trump voice says, "Artix you are late! You are FIRED!"

POW! Alpha Testing HAPPENING NOW!

What is an Alpha Test? It is the FIRST test! Not normally intended for players to see, it is a prototype of the game -- unstable, chock full of bugs, partial-working features, and terrifying mistakes. Only the bravest players who are interested in helping to test, find bugs, make suggestions, and help build the game should dare participate in the Alpha Test! It is not a complete game -- we will be building it right under your feet. There will be three phases:

 

Phase 1 - Character Creation (HAPPENING NOW)

To make sure you get your first pick of character names, character creation will be open to EVERYONE who has supported our previous games: AQworlds, DragonFable, MechQuest, EpicDuel, and the original AdventureQuest. Make sure you have created your "one login to rule them all" and linked your old game accounts at our BATTLEON! GAMES portal.

 

Phase 2 - Alpha Game Play Test (HAPPENIN NOW!)

When we first start, we will be locked down to a single multiplayer server that can only support a maximum of 1,500 users. We need to develop on a single server because we will be making non-stop code and content changes. Anyone who played on the AQWorlds PTR knows what that is like. Obviously, there is not enough room for everyone, and since this is an MMO built on AQWorld's engine and resources, the most fair thing to allow do is limit this phase to players with active AQWorlds Memberships.You can learn more about becoming a member of AQWorlds here.

 

Phase 3 - Multiple Server Alpha Game Play Test (Starts Feb??)

Once the game is stable, we will open up multiple servers and begin Phase 3 where everyone who has supported us in the past will be invited to participate in the ALPHA. Yes, there will be something special for EVERYONE who helps test.

Building a Game Together

We hope you are as excited about the launch of this new game. We are going to create a forum and start some threads to ask for your help for coming up with super powers, outfit ideas and all of the other supery things that will be needed to make this game a hit. What kind of character are you going to create? Do you have a backstory in mind? Are you going to be good or evil? Were you born on our world or far away from a distant planet? How did you get your powers? Do you have a weakness? What profession will you use to conceal your secret identity when you are not super-ing around?

ZAP! About your HeroSmash Team....

Artix writes, "Greetings friends! I hope you are excited about this new game. What do you think of the graphical style? Originally we went with more traditional comic book looking characters, but it felt really.... overdone. We re-did the character design completely probably 5 times until we stumbled on these Vinyl looking characters and thought... wow.... these guys have some serious attitude! Please let me know your thoughts on Twitter. I am most looking forward to the skill & power mix/matching system. It is not going to be ready for the first test... the entire combat engine needed to be gutted and rebuilt to support this new system. It should allow a lot of cool things (including combos) when finished though! While a lot of us are spending time working on the game, here is the official team roster for those of you who like the behind the scenes details. Battle on!"
